Every child on Earth has the right to live a decent, if not a happy childhood. It is a statement beyond any doubt, which should not be denied in any circumstances.
Unfortunately, chances are not equal for all the children living in the European community.
• How can I be happy when my family is torn apart and my parents face alcohol problems?
• How can I be happy when I have to choose between getting a proper education and work to support my younger brothers?
• How can I be happy when the treatment I get depends on the colour of my face?
• How can I be happy when I’m hungry and I don’t have warm clothes for winter?
• How can I be happy when my future had already been decided from the very minute when I was born?
As unbelievable as it may seem, there are many children still dealing with the problems stated above. It is the case of most of the pupils from Mironeasa School. Some of them do not know their own birthday because they come from large families where celebrating a birthday is more than they can financially afford. Some do not attend school because education is not a value that matters, unlike work, which provides them money and food for the next day. And almost all of them are bound to live the same life as their fathers and grandfathers, because they don’t even dare to dream of the possibility of making a different future.
The aim of this project is to make their voices heard and help them understand their rights and their choices. Each year of the project will highlight a fundamental category of rights, as follows:
1. The right to protection against any kind of emotional or physical abuse and against exploitation.
2. The right to personal development and to get free access to basic education and medical services.
3. The right to active participation in making their own decisions.
We are looking for partners from any country in Europe, either dealing with a similar situation or willing to present good practice examples.
